He is an art critic, poet and publisher. He began as an editor at the Quillet encyclopedic dictionary (literature and fine arts), then became editor-in-chief, with Jacques Brosse, of the first edition of the ‘Dictionary of works of all times and all countries – literature, philosophy, music, science ‘in 4 volumes. He was then appointed artistic and technical editorial director of Éditions Fernand Hazan, long considered the leading art publishing house in France. Animator, layout designer, writer, designer, director, he will publish his first book on Picasso accompanied by a catalog of 260 illustrations, reconstructing, like a film, the chronological sequence of the work.
He was especially noted for being the editor-in-chief of the three-volume ‘Universal Dictionary of Art and Artists’ published in 1966 and 1967. His six-volume ‘Universal Dictionary of Painting’ (1975-1976) is the first of its kind in France to introduce the big names in Chinese and Japanese art. Until the end of his life, he continued to direct the editions of numerous works of art, including 25 Years of Art in France (1986). His latest work, however, is not dedicated to the visual arts, but to poetry. ‘Robert Ganzo (The Life and Work of the Poet)’ traces the life of the French-speaking Venezuelan poet.
